No Margin, No Mission has established a much-needed niche to help nonprofits identify entrepreneurial ways to gain financial stability and independence by reducing their dependence on grants and donations. This is particularly important as the economic challenges of recent years have left many organizations unable to grow, thrive, or even survive. Operating from the premise that many nonprofits have created assets of value that can be sold to other stakeholders to help generate financial resources for their organization — such as curriculum, trainings, keynote speaking engagements, consulting, and a whole host of other offerings — No Margin, No Mission helps leaders apply innovative thinking, entrepreneurial practices, and business strategy to generate new income sources, diversify revenue, and expand impact.

No Margin, No Mission’s work for their new clients includes a combination of entrepreneurial activities and initiatives:

Its engagements with Catalyst MiamiHealth Council of South Floridaand Lotus House Women’s Shelterall in Miami, grew out of an Earned Income Training and Business Planning Initiative that was funded by Allegany Franciscan Ministries to provide technical assistance and consultation for 16-weeks to each organization focused on development of a business plan for an earned income offering.

In February, work began with Orlando, Florida-based IDignity to develop a business plan for expansion of their highly innovative and effective model designed to help the disadvantaged in Central Florida overcome the difficulties in obtaining personal identification.

Work is currently underway to help Denver and New York City-based Generation Schools Network develop a business plan for expansion of its innovative and breakthrough Public Education Model as a way to expand the margin and mission of the organization.

Business plan development for Washington Women’s Employment & Education (WWEE) was launched in March to help this Tacoma, Washington-based organization expand and grow one of its key earned income offerings that helps women and men create better lives for themselves and their families by teaching them the skills to find and keep jobs.
